Taylor Swift is a seriously accomplished woman.
She’s the only artist in history to win four Album of the Year Grammys. She’s also the only artist to ever occupy the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Not to mention, NYU granted her an honorary doctorate in fine arts.
We could go on and on about how wonderful Taylor is.
And yet, Swifties don’t only want to hear about her various accomplishments. They also want to know about her love life.
It makes sense considering that the majority of Taylor’s songs heavily feature themes of romance and heartbreak.
So, without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s current boyfriend, Travis Kelce – American football tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL) – as well as all the other men she’s dated over the years…
Travis Kelce, September 2023-present
In July 2023, Travis Kelce admitted on his podcast New Heights, that he’d been to see Taylor’s Eras Tour but left upset. Why?
Well, because he’d made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it and planned to ‘shoot his shot’ with Taylor. However, he wasn’t allowed backstage to give it to her. (For context, Swifties make and trade friendship bracelets at Taylor’s concerts because of the lyrics “so make the friendship bracelets” from her song You’re On Your Own Kid.)
“I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” Travis jokingly said.
“She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal.”
But after making this admission, Taylor reached out to Travis and the two began dating. Then on September 24, 2023, they launched their relationship publicly when Taylor watched Travis and the Chiefs play against the Chicago Bears while sitting next to Travis’ mum, Donna.
Taylor, during a rare interview, spoke of the ‘launch’ and told TIME Magazine in December 2023, “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.
“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” she continued.
“I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
Taylor went on to explain why she and Travis are so ‘public’ – Taylor’s previous relationship with Joe Alwyn was notoriously private, whereas she and Travis have repeatedly been spotted kissing, holding hands and publicly supporting each other.
For instance, on November 11, 2023, Travis attended Taylor’s Buenos Aires leg of the Eras Tour and during the show, Taylor, while performing Karma, sang “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs,” instead of the original lyrics, “Karma is the guy on the screen.”
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care… We’re just proud of each other,” Taylor explained.
She went on to say that her intentions of going to watch Travis play football are pure; she has no idea (nor does she care) if NFL broadcasters are going to pan the cameras to her during the game.
“I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
This was especially evident when Taylor showed up at the 2024 Super Bowl. Travis’ team the Chiefs made it to the esteemed championship NFL game, and Taylor literally flew miles to show up and support her man.
On February 10, 2024, Taylor finished the fourth and final show of the Toyko leg of her Eras Tour and immediately flew to Las Vegas to watch Super Bowl LVIII on February 11.
She, along with her close friend Blake Lively, was seen cheering Travis and the team on from the stands throughout the whole game, and when the Chiefs won, Taylor ran down to the field to congratulate Travis. The two then shared an incredibly sweet kiss.
A viral video of Travis and Taylor celebrating the Chiefs’ win at a Las Vegas nightclub later that night also emerged online; in it, Taylor and Travis are dancing and singing along to her song Love Story and she points to him and then herself during the lyrics, “You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess.” The two then kiss during the lyrics, “It’s a love story, baby just say yes.”
If that’s not a supportive, fairytale-like romance, we don’t know what is!
And if you’re still not convinced, in March 2024, Travis made some wholesome comments about Taylor on his podcast.
Speaking about his trip to Australia – Travis flew from Vegas to Sydney just to watch Taylor perform the Eras Tour Down Under – he said:
“Taylor is the biggest and the best thing possible.”
Matty Healy, early 2023
In early 2023, after her breakup with Joe Alwyn, Taylor began dating Matty Healy – lead singer of The 1975.
It was a very short lived romance but fans believe the majority of Taylor’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, was inspired by her relationship with Matty.
This led to reporters asking Matty in April 2024 what he thought of the album.
“I haven’t really listened to that much of it but I’m sure it’s good,” the singer-songwriter said.
Joe Alwyn, September 2016-early 2023
Taylor was extremely tight-lipped when it came to her relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, so we only know a few details about their six-year-long relationship.
Thanks to the lyrics, “Flashback when you met me, your buzzcut and my hair bleached,” from Taylor’s song Dress, it’s believed that the two met in May 2016 at the MET Gala.
But it’s also believed that the two didn’t officially start dating until a few months later on September 28, 2016 – when Taylor covered Earth, Wind & Fire’s September in 2018, she changed the lyrics to “Do you remember the 28th night of September?”
In terms of Taylor speaking directly about Joe – and not through cryptic song lyrics – in the 2020 documentary Miss Americana, Taylor said, “I was falling in love with someone who had a wonderfully normal, balanced life. We decided together we wanted our relationship to be private. I was happy. But I wasn’t happy in the way I was trained to be happy. It was happiness without anyone else’s input. We were just happy.”
In the 2020 Disney+ special Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, Taylor confirmed that the mysterious William Bowery, who had co-written several songs on her seventh album Folklore, was Joe’s pseudonym.
“There’s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity because it’s not a real person. So, William Bowery is Joe, as we know. He plays piano beautifully, and he’s always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things.”
And finally, in 2021, when Taylor won the Grammy award for Album of the Year – for the third time in her career – she thanked Joe.
“Joe, who is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine,” the singer gushed.
It’s not clear exactly when the two broke up, but it was first rumoured Taylor and Joe had called it quits in April 2023. The breakup seemed to be confirmed by Taylor in May 2023, when she deleted a reel – in which she explained the meaning behind her song Lavender Haze – from her Instagram.
“[In] my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumours, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. And so, this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff,” she said in the video that’s now been removed.
Tom Hiddleston, June 2016-September 2016
Ah the days of ‘Hiddleswift’. Taylor and actor Tom Hiddleston had a whirlwind love affair in 2016 after meeting at the MET Gala.
The two were repeatedly spotted kissing and holding hands during this time frame; Tom even sported a t-shirt that read, “I love TS” on July 4, 2016.
But the couple just wasn’t meant to be. The two split in September 2016 and Taylor’s never really spoken about the relationship – although it’s widely believed the song Getaway Car is about Tom.
Calvin Harris, March 2015-June 2016
Singer Ellie Goulding introduced Taylor to DJ and songwriter Calvin Harris (who’s real name is Adam Wiles) in February 2015.
The two were then regularly spotted out in public, and shared photos and videos of each other on their respective Instagrams.
Taylor and Calvin even wrote the hit-song This Is What You Came For together; although Taylor used a pseudonym and it didn’t become public knowledge that Taylor had helped pen the track until after she and Calvin broke up… Which led Calvin to Tweet some interesting things in July 2016.
“Amazing lyric writer and she smashed it as usual,” he initially Tweeted before adding, in three separate Tweets which have all now been deleted:
“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym. Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though. I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf [boyfriend] down for something to do.”
In June 2017, Calvin admitted to British GQ that he “snapped” and that while those Tweets were a result of not handling the breakup well, they were “completely the wrong instinct.”
Harry Styles, December 2012-January 2013
It’s rumoured that most of Taylor’s hit album 1989 – and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) – was inspired by her short relationship with Harry.
The two were first spotted walking around Central Park on December 3, 2012 and were then seen together multiple times before a source claimed to PEOPLE in January 2013 that they’d gone their separate ways.
Conor Kennedy, July 2012-September 2012
Taylor and Conor Kennedy, the grandson of Former United States Attorney General Robert ‘Bobby’ F. Kennedy, dated briefly in the summer of 2012.
Taylor bought a house near the Kennedy compound after she and Conor met, and the two were then inseparable. Taylor even wrote the sweet song Starlight about Conor’s grandparents Bobby and Ethel.
In September 2012, the pair split amicably because of distance and busy schedules – she was about to begin promoting her album Red and he was heading off to college.
Jake Gyllenhaal, October 2010-January 2011
It’s believed most of the album Red – and Red (Taylor’s Version) – is about Taylor’s relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
The pair were first linked together in October 2010 when they were backstage together at a Saturday Night Live taping.
They then were photographed on several occasions walking hand in hand until a source told PEOPLE in January 2011 that they’d broken up after Jake didn’t show at Taylor’s 21st birthday party – something that’s referenced in the songs The Moment I Knew and All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault].
John Mayer, November 2009-February 2010
Taylor and singer-songwriter John Mayer dated briefly after co-writing the song Half Of My Heart, when she was 19-years-old and he was 32-years-old.
It’s believed that the songs Dear John and Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve – which feature the lyrics, “Don’t you think nineteen’s too young to be played by your dark, twisted games when I loved you so?” and “Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first” – are about Taylor’s relationship with John.
It’s also believed that John’s song Paper Doll – which features the lyrics, “You’re like 22 girls in one and none of them know what they’re running from” – is about Taylor.
Taylor Lautner, August 2009-November 2009
Taylor met actor and Twilight heartthrob Taylor Lautner on the set of Valentine’s Day. In the film, the pair played a high-school couple which led to them becoming a couple in real life.
But, after a few months, the Taylors broke up. Taylor S ultimately penned the song Back To December, which is about regretting breaking up with someone, and Taylor L confirmed the song was about him in 2016, when he was promoting the show Scream Queens.
Obviously, the two are on good terms though. Taylor L starred in the film clip for Taylor S’s 2023 song I Can See You, and also appeared onstage at one of her recent Eras Tour shows.
Joe Jonas, July 2008-October 2008
The first fellow celebrity Taylor ever dated was Joe Jonas. And the two have had a tumultuous relationship to say the least.
Both Taylor and Joe confirmed in 2008 that he broke up with her on the phone during a 25-second call, and both had choice words for each other.
Taylor told Ellen Degeneres at the time, “When I find that person that is right for me, he’ll be wonderful and when I look at that person, I’m not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”
Joe clapped back on MySpace and wrote, “Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk.”
The two then made digs about each other for years, up until 2011, when they buried the hatchet and both confirmed they were friends.
