King Charles delivers a speech while at a Parliamentary reception

Monday October 21st, 2024

King Charles delivered a speech while at a Parliamentary reception hosted by Anthony Albanese, and essentially, he just spoke fondly of Australia.

His Majesty began by saying he was grateful for the opportunity to pay his respects to traditional owners.

“Throughout my life, Australia’s First Nations people have done me the great honour of sharing so generously their stories and cultures… I can only say how much my own experience has been shaped and strengthened by such traditional wisdom.”

He then spoke of the late Queen Elizabeth’s love of Australia.

“Today, I am proud to follow in the footsteps of my late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who spoke of the warmth she received from her first visit [to Australia] in 1954. This was a feeling which I know she returned in equal measure.”

King Charles went on to reminisce about his previous pleasant visits to Australia before commending us for becoming a stronger nation as a result of multiculturalism and for how we are handling various challenges – like climate change, domestic violence, healthcare, and illiteracy.

The King concluded his speech by saying, “I can’t begin to express how pleased we are to be here again, nor how sad I am it has to be so short on this occasion. When we turn our steps homeward, we will carry memories of friendships renewed, of new ones forged, and of the characteristic warmth and humour of Australians you share with those who are fortunate enough to know you.”

However, when he did finish, Senator Lidia Thorpe created a disturbance by saying, “You are not our king, you are not sovereign. Give us our land back, give us what you stole from our people.”

She was swiftly escorted from the room.
